OYO rooms commence operations in London: Report

OYO Rooms has further expanded its international presence with the launch of operations in London, a report by Entrackr said. The homegrown hotel aggregator has been offering bookings in Sussex Gardens, Paddington, London, according to the report. Entrackr claims that the hotel, an Oyo Townhouse property, will be priced in the range of Rs 6,500 to 8,000. However, neither OYO’s website nor its mobile application have listed any property in London. Medianama reached out to OYO for a comment but hasn’t received any reply at the time of publishing.

In June, media reports claimed that the SoftBank backed company had expressed its aspirations to expand into Europe (starting with London) and other Asian territories. With the lunch of its operations in London, OYO will now have a presence in six markets outside India.

OYO’s expansion drive

Last month, OYO officially commenced its operations in China and said that it has about 11,000 rooms in 26 cities including Hangzhou, Xian, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Xiamen and Kunming among others. Back in May, it had been reported that OYO had silently begun operations in Shenzen, with prices starting around ¥100 (Chinese Yuan) which is around Rs 1000. That apart, the homegrown brand also has started operations in Malaysia, Thailand, Dubai and Nepal earlier this year. According to its website, OYO is currently operating 8,500 hotels and 70,000 rooms in more than 230 cities.

In February, OYO struck a deal with MakeMyTrip to list OYO’s inventory of hotels across India, Malaysia and Nepal will be listed on MakeMyTrip and its brand Goibibo. A similar deal was signed between Yatra and OYO in 2017. The three online travel agents had delisted OYO from their platforms in 2015.

The company has cumulatively raised around $473 million from investors. Last September, OYO raised $250 million in a Series D round led by existing investor SoftBank. Following that, OYO, in the same month, OYO also attracted an investment of $10 million from China Lodging Group Ltd.
