Facebook India head Umang Bedi will quit at the end of the year

Facebook India Managing Director (India & South Asia), Umang Bedi has put down his papers. A spokesperson for the company said, “We confirm that Umang Bedi will be leaving his role and Facebook at the end of this year. He’s built a really strong team and business during his time with us, and we wish him all the best.” The spokesperson added that Bedi’s departure was for personal reasons to pursue other avenues. He will stay on to oversee the transition till the end of the year.

Bedi had joined Facebook in July 2016, and was in-charge of strategic relationships with top clients and regional agencies in the country. He took over from Kirthiga Reddy, who returned to the United States to join the Global Accounts team at the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park, CA.

Prior to joining Facebook, he was the Managing Director (South Asia) of Adobe for over five years (March 2011 to June 2016). Before that he was the Managing Director (India & Emerging Markets) at Intuit Inc. between November 2008 and March 2011, and the head of banking, financial services and insurance at Symantec Corporation for three years. Bedi has also worked at Sun Microsystems Inc. for close to three years, Wipro Corporation for two years, and Satyam Computer Services for two years.

Late last year, Facebook had hired Google India’s former e-commerce business head Pulkit Trivedi as its industry director for e-commerce, retail, travel and financial services. He was in-charge of building and maintaining strategic relationships with India clients. And a few months prior to this, it had hired former Snapdeal chief product officer Anand Chandrasekaran to develop its Messenger application.
