Imtiaz Ali & nexGTv launch digital platform for content creators

Film director Imtiaz Ali has tied up with mobile video-on-demand service nexGTv to launch a digital platform called SPOTLight where filmmakers and content creators can post their original short videos across genres, reports Indiantelevision.

According to the report, Ali will judge the 5 most-viewed videos on the app every month, out of which one will win a prize of Rs 1 lakh and the second prize winner will get Rs 25,000 to make their next video. Interestingly, creators who upload their videos will get paid 11 paise per view after they cross 3,000 page views. Also, creators who had previously sent their videos to other platforms are also eligible to upload it to SPOTLight.

Apparently, since Ali gets multiple requests from budding filmmakers to check their content, he will now be able to direct them to the SPOTLight platform. He will be looking for different aspects like the music, the story, storytelling and presentation to judge the videos. Creators can make an account on the nexGTv app and upload their content. IndianTelevision cited NexGTV as saying that the company has spent 80% of its investment in the venture into marketing for SPOTLight.

In May, nexGTv bagged the exclusive mobile and digital rights to stream the French Open 2015. Tennis fans could stream 128 singles matches and 64 doubles matches on mobile handsets, tablets and PCs for free through the app.

– Last month, online classifieds service Quikr signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with filmmaker Vivek Bohra and casting director Aadore Mukherjee, to launch a platform for actors, casting directors, and production houses. The company told MediaNama that the platform would bring together professionals from the film industry, and come up with solutions for the industry, which might involve creating an app. It was unclear as to what exactly the platform would offer or do.

In the same month, Multi Screen Media (MSM), a unit of Sony Pictures Television India, tied up with Red Chillies Entertainment to co-produce television, digital and film content. The deal would also give MSM rights to certain movies made by the production house, although it’s not clear which ones. Additionally, MSM also acquired the TV rights to the upcoming film Dilwale, co-produced by Red Chillies.

In light of the state's emerging digital healthcare apparatus, how does Clause 12 alter the consent and purpose limitation model?

The collective implication of leaving out ‘proportionality’ from Clause 12 is to provide very wide discretionary powers to the state.

The latest draft is also problematic for companies or service providers that have nothing to with children's data.
