Twitter appoints Mahima Kaul as India public policy head

Twitter has appointed Mahima Kaul to lead its public policy in India, reports ET. Twitter’s head for India news politics and government announced this through a tweet on the platform. Kaul joins Twitter after a stint at the Observer Research Foundation where she worked as a fellow for over 2 years. She led the cyber and new media initiative and was on the CyFy committee, a conference on cyber security and internet governance, at ORF.

Kaul worked as the India correspondent for Index on Censorship for over 2 years where she reported on censorship and internet governance issues in India before joining ORF. Prior to that, she worked as the founder director at The Open Communication Foundation for almost 3 years. She has also worked as a producer and correspondent at TV News International for over 4 years, a consultant and project manager at Digital Empowerment Foundation a little over a year, partnerships director at Video Volunteers for over a year.

Her journalism experience includes being an online video editor at Indian Express for about 7 months, anchor and correspondent at NewsX for a short duration and a senior sub editor at The Indian Express for over a year.

Before this, Kaul worked as a researcher at Media Strategy for a year. She also interned at Orion Publishing for a year and as a production assistant at Ventana Productions & Hendrick Communications for a year. Before this, she worked as a researcher at Centre for Policy Research for a year.

Recent exits and appointments at Twitter:

– Late last month, Twitter’s vice president of corporate development and strategy, Rishi Garg quit the company to pursue new projects. He was in charge of M&As at Twitter and during his tenure, he completed about 12 acquisitions, including Bangalore-based mobile marketing and analytics company Zipdial, live streaming app Periscope,TellApart, JoinNiche, and machine learning startup Whetlab.

– Twitter’s director of corporate development and strategy, Jess Verrilli had also stepped down from her role in May to join Google Ventures as a partner. She had played a key role in Twitter’s acquisition of Vine.

– Early last month, Dick Costolo stepped down from his role as CEO of the microblogging platform after five years. The company’s co-founder and chairman Jack Dorsey was to take over as interim CEO.

– Twitter hired Anthony Noto, a former Goldman Sachs investment banker who helped the company during its IPO, as its CFO.

– In January this year, Twitter India appointed Taranjeet Singh as the Head of Sales for its India operations. In his new role, Singh would be responsible for finding commercial opportunities for Twitter in India, and work with brands and agencies to optimize real-time marketing.

– In September last year, Twitter also appointed former head of digital marketing and eCommerce at MTS India Anupam Dikhit as its Industry Manager for the country. At Twitter, Dikhit would be responsible for supporting the company’s Indian advertising campaigns and working with marketers to increase their customer engagement on its platform.
