Statewise Broadband Subscribers In India – September 2011

In a time period from December 2010 to September 2011, the total number  of broadband connections in India increased by 15.84%, albeit on a small base. According to data provided to MediaNama by the Department of Telecom, following a Right To Information filing by us, Maharashtra had the maximum connections with 22,44,933 as of September 2011, up 11.34% over a six month period beginning March 2011. We had sought information till May 2012, but this is what we have, for now.

On the other hand, Delhi ( including NCR) registered the minimum growth of 1% taking its total connection base to 1,012,080. Strangely, Tamil Nadu (including Chennai) witnessed a decline in broadband connections between August 2011 and September 2011, of 3.98% with 63,191 connections being reduced.

The bottom five comprises of hilly states: the North East, that includes the states of Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland & Tripura had registered  the maximum growth with 27.82% albeit on a low base. This is followed by the state of Jammu and Kashmir, with 59,128 connections. Assam, another North Eastern state had comparatively higher penetration with 81865 connections.
